Now that I am 60

I turned 60 on Sunday. When I was 40, 60 seemed old. Now at 60, 80 seems old. I could easily complain about getting older and it does come with more aches and pains, but I choose to relish being this age. I did a recent Google search and according to Blueprint Income, I have a 75% chance of living to 94 based on my age, weight, height, education, income, lifestyle, and health. What am I going to do with the years still ahead of me?

Continue learning. We just returned from a trip to Middle and Eastern European cities. There was suggested pre-reading and since I had time, I did that. What struck me the most was how much I did not know about WWII and the Soviet occupation. You are never too old to learn new things. It was invigorating and left Mark and me with new things to talk about.

Continue doing things that take me out of my comfort zone. When working full-time, I often had to do things for my job that stretched my skills and knowledge. When out of my comfort zone, I am more open to new ideas and new ways of thinking about things. My brain is more elastic if that makes sense. In semi-retirement, it would be easy to avoid these things.  Rather, I am going to continue to push myself.

Continue to spend time helping others. Through God’s grace, I have multiple skills, talents, and treasures to share. They are not mine to keep. Since I now have more time, I can give more generously of these things.

Continue to kick butt. Do the important things with the utmost focus and to the best of my ability. Continue trying new things, making new goals, and holding myself accountable to get them done.

Yes, I am semi-retired and 60 but why slow down? I have confidence that there is so much to come, and I am ready to take it on! What about you? Have you achieved a recent milestone age or perhaps have one ahead of you? How will you spend the rest of your time?
